Target Audience

This one day on-line course is aimed at complete beginners to acquire the skill necessary to use SPSS files.

The course tutor, Elizabeth Wiredu, is a Medical Statistician and she also supports all methodological approaches to qualitative research. Elizabeth has 29 years of experience, providing teaching and learning support for graduate schools, postgraduate students, medical doctors and other health researchers. She has served as an in-house medical statistician at University Hospitals of Aintree and trained doctors in Mersey Deanery on medical statistics. This workshop is suitable for users who have no prior experience using SPSS.

Aim

This one-day course is aimed at complete beginners to IBM SPSS Statistics. It introduces basic concepts and structures and uses these to read in and prepare data ready for analysis and perform data manipulations using core commands to generate descriptive statistics and graphical summaries. You will learn to use a number of data manipulation techniques including: recode, count occurrence, select cases given a criteria, split files, compute, and multiple response data summary statistics.

  • Produce simple descriptive statistics and one and two-way tables
